Reiki is a specific form of energy healing, brought into human awareness in the early 1900s by a Japanese doctor Mikao Usui.
Simply put, Reiki is the Universal Life Force Energy. It is a wave function/ energy that permeates everything and powers the subatomic particles, atoms, cells and matter.
It is everywhere and in everyone on this planet, our galaxy and the Universe.
Existing in this infinite field of energy potential we are all connected and Reiki, much like all other energy and other energy teachings can be transmitted through the field using different methods.
Usui Reiki uses sacred symbols.
At an energetic and spiritual level, the Reiki healing symbols act as gateways to certain types of energies and entities.
Each symbol connects to a vibration as the intention is set.
In turn, these represent different manifestations of the universal life force energy that flows through us, so, each symbol connects to a certain vibration. It increases the energy level of your body, mind, and spirit while healing you from within. We are all channels through which the universal life force energy flows. This can manifest efficiently through symbols and intention.
Therefore, the purpose is to raise your vibration and discover the root of your problems. Then you can start healing by opening the main energy channels and centers.
These symbols were revealed to Usui Sensei in March of 1922. He had a mystical experience on Mount Kurama (Kurama yama) during which he was attuned to the Reiki energy, shown Reiki symbols and from this he developed his style of Reiki, which he called Usui Reiki Ryoho.
At that time there were other Reiki healing styles in use such as: Reikan Tonetsu Ryoho created by Reikaku Ishinuki, Senshinryu Reiki Ryoho created by Kogetsu Matsubara and Seido Reishojutsu created by Reisen Oyama.
Due to circumstances that developed during World War II, along with the work of Mrs. Hawayo Takata who brought Reiki from Japan to the West in 1938, the other forms of Reiki fell into disuse or remained relatively unknown while Usui Reiki continued to be practiced and grew in popularity.
Until recently Reiki was an oral tradition in the West with no written record of its history or teachings. All that is known thus far was taught through the spoken word of Mrs. Takata.
More direct contact was made with some Reiki masters in Japan in 1996 and 1997, including the Reiki Ryoho Gakkai which is the original organization started by Dr. Usui.
Every Usui Reiki Practitioner is guided by the precepts that Master Usui set forth as he believed that: “This is surely a secret process to bring a good fortune and also a miraculous medicine to remedy all kinds of diseases”
Reiki can only be passed on from person to person.
Every student of Reiki is attuned by a Reiki Master who can trace back their lineage all the way to Mikao Usui.
