Mr Teasy-Weasy

Raymond Bessone A.K.A. Mr Teasy-Weasy was  the first TV hairdresser and kick-started the concept of celebrity stylists.

He was born in London Soho in 1911 and worked hard in his father’s barbershop, mastering his craft before opening his own salon in exclusive Mayfair. In my view he was a sculptor of sorts as he created most incredible bouffant hairstyles in the 1950s and thus made them super popular at that time.

Mr Bessone was famous for his flawless haircutting technique and his celebrity clientele included crème de la crème of the British high society and entertainment. Diana Dors flew him to Los Angeles for hair wash and an updo!

I have been fascinated and inspired by this artist’s legacy and have been incredibly fortunate to have been given the most precious item of my vintage hair accessories collection.

A hair piece handmade by the master himself in an original box.

The hair piece was made for Mrs Ann Talbot Searle who was a Television Topper with the Black and White Minstrels.

Very few remember the genius of Raymond Bessone and I am hoping to change that as without him we would not have had Vidal Sassoon or Leonard of Mayfar. I remain inspired by his creativity and boldness and hope you will to.
