Holidays are over and like every year we are all full of new ideas and resolutions! But what about our beauty resolutions? I for one, intend to detoxify my body, mind, shoe cupboards and makeup bags!
My motto and my suggestion to you for 2017. is to adapt the – In with the old, out with the new – attitude! For hundreds of years women used makeup to enhance their most beautiful features and to conceal or correct imperfections. Then Instagram and the Kardashians happened and makeup evolved into a contouring mayhem!
Whilst I am thrilled that there is so much more attention paid to makeup today, I really think it is time to hit the detox button. Your skin is your biggest organ and it is constantly exposed to the elements, so let us take good care of it! Be brave and let one of your resolutions for 2017 be to forget about contouring, baking and plastering your lovely skin with layers and layers of powders, concealers, setting powders and blushers.
Here are my top tips on how to have healthy, clean skin and a fabulous ‘less is more’ look pioneered by Mr. Kevyn Aucoin in the early 1990’s.
Resolution #1 / Good ol’ cleanse/exfoliate!
I love to use all types of cleansers. Oily, foaming and cream ones. When I use waterproof mascara or a long lasting lipsticks I use Shu Uemura Clensing Oil, otherwise Zelens Foaming Cleanser or Aurelia Creamy Miracle Cleanser. Apply oil/cream/foam directly on dry skin and massage it gently in circular motion.
The cleanser will break down all the makeup and dirt. Use wet facial loofah pads and exfoliate. Loofah will not only help remove all the makeup but will gently exfoliate and help shed the dead skin cells. Rinse with lukewarm water and I leave your skin to soak it up. I have not used a facial cloth for decades!
Resolution #2 / Moisturize!
For those of you with oily skin that just want super light hydration I wholeheartedly recommend Darphin’s Hydraskin Light. The texture is lighter than air and when you apply it on wet/damp skin it’s hydration properties will be amplified.
For those with normal/dry, dry, sun damaged skin and goddesses that are over certain age I recommend Algenist Advanced Repairing Oil. It is a non greasy fabulousness with micro-algae that repairs cellular and DNA damage.
Apply 4 drops on wet/damp skin (face, neck and décolletage) and you will benefit from the most hydrating liquid on this planet by sealing it in with this exceptionally reparative oil.
Foundation Resolution #1 / I shall cease the use of 4 types of primers, foundations, concealers, baking and other powders!
For the most amazing natural coverage, one squirt of Nars Sheer Glow Foundation, evenly applied will do the trick. For those with more oily skin, grab Nars All Day Luminous Weightless Foundation, again one drop of it will be enough for the whole face. Apply with fingers, work it in, blend well and enjoy fabulously soft, natural looking, dewy skin.
Eye Makeup Resolution #2 / I shall cease the use of 5 eyeshadows, thick false lashes and stencilled eyebrows!
Well I’m just in love with ByTerry’s Colored Mascaras. My green eyes become even greener when I pop 2 coats of her Blue No8. I do not even bother with the eyeshadow. It is all that you need. Colored mascaras are making a comeback from the 1980s and are all the rage at the moment. The rule of wear is that there is no rule!
Dark eyes beauties could apply some black/grey eyeliner or eyeshadow working it into the eyelash line and then use any color mascara. Light eye goddesses don’t really have to.
A word of caution to this tale: I’d stay away from purple or burgundy colored mascaras as those ones can make your eyes look tad blood shot but hey, if you like that somewhat heroin-chic look, rock it!
Lip Makeup Resolution #3 / I shall cease the use of sticky lip glosses, liners and 5 different colored lipsticks!
Miss Poppy truly is the Lipstick Queen in my eyes! Her Butterfly Ball Collection offers 6 colors and they are all just fabulous. They are all translucent, unassuming and moisturizing balms with a hint of color. My favorite is FLY… you can apply it with your eyes closed and not worry about going over the lip line. It is sheer nude with super discreet blue shimmer that enhances the red pigment of your lips. Just fabulous!
I am off to have some green tea with lemon, while you have fun trying this out!

I cannot guarantee that all the skincare products I suggest will work for you. The same applies to the make-up recommendations. I only write about the products I personally have tried and use on myself and my clients. Please keep in mind that the skin is our biggest organ and everyone’s is different. It is possible to be allergic to anything. Whenever possible test products out on yourself before purchasing.
